Go read. If nothing else, EU-Serf's comment there about the need for cross-party opposition to this is something I wholeheartedly endorse.
But minister Jim Murphy insisted the bill would have safeguards built in.

Fears raised on ministers' power

I wrote to my (Labour) MP, Gavin Strang, asking if he could take action on the Leg Reg Ref Bill. That was 9 days ago, I have received nothing in reply. Isn't there a limit on how long they're meant to take?
I understand the built in safeguards are that the government promise, really, truly, honestly, that they'll never do anything naughty.
So that's all right then.
Pete, preceisely my concerns. Not a manifesto commitment, the lords will shred it, unless I've missed it; reading that turgid tome was hard work the first time.
Fluffy? They have no obligation to reply at all. You should feel free to shout from the rooftops that they fail to do so as well.
